Property in Narbonne - History of Narbonne

historical building in Narbonne

Narbonne was established in Gaul in 118 BC, as Colonia Narbo Martius. Later, the “Provincia” of southern Gaul was named “Gallia Narbonensis”, after the city, and Narbonne was made its capital.

It was subsequently the capital of the Visigothic province of Septimania, then part of the Emirate of Cordoba and finally part of the Carolingian Viscounty of Narbonne after the Francs conquest.

In the 12 th century, the court of Ermengarde of Narbonne presided over one of the cultural centers where the spirit of “courtly love” was developed.

The contemporary Narbonne is the living image of its cultural heritage. An exceptional past and modern combination gives the whole town its so peculiar and smooth respiration tempo.

From the “Residence HELCIA”, it will take you only 10mn to be in the city center strolling along the “Canal de la Robine”, sipping a glass of delicious local wine by the “Via Domitia” remains whilst admiring the Archbishop’s Palace and its “donjon” and end up buying some local gourmet products in the famous “Les Halles” covered market.
